A transfer tank is different then an auxiliary tank. A transfer tank is not plumbed into the OEM fuel system whereas an aux tank is. So you very well could have a DOT approved gasoline transfer tank.
I have an RDS aux diesel tank. They sell their auxiliary tanks for diesel use and their transfer tanks for either gas or diesel use.
