Thanks guys! This is the exact type of feedback I'm looking for.
Im just starting to speck out a real game plan and material list. Weight wise, I don't plan to be the lightest of the light, but I don't plant that I will come on the heavy end either. I will be several hundred pounds heavier, but not several thousand.
I can build a leak proof, rot proof unit. I'm certain of it. This will be as bullet proof and maintenance free a unit as it can get.
What is the real world price range on a 22-24 trailer? The middle of the road stuff up to the top end? My welding business is a very small operation, and I can build a premium travel trailer and be extremely price competitive because I have virtually no overhead cost other then my own labor. Should this dream of mind actually ever turn into anything and grow, balancing the type of product I want to build and having it be price competitive could get to be a delicate balance.
As fit and finish, don't see any limitations on my end other then what somebody is willing to pay for in options. The base trailor and shell will cost the same wether it's deck out or bare bones.
Like I said, I've had a few trailers over the years that we mainly towed back and forth and used as hunting camps at various hunting leases. We eventually bought an older airstream and did a little bit of vacationing in it. I was just shocked at what junk they basically where, not so much the airstream, but the other more cookie cutter cheaper trailers. They where more or less throw away. I actually birthed this idea from wanting something I can travel in to go do a little hunting up north, and have a mobile bass of operations I can tow with me. I want something that would just be maintenance free and bullet proof, and built exactly how I want it. I got to thinking, I'm probably not the only one with this desire. I'm a good boat builder, with a very good reputation for quality and service, but it's hard to stand out down here as a boat builder. There are many very talaneted boat builders in south La. But after some digging, I saw that there was no one doing the campers, and it seems to be an untapped market. Even if not being a mainstream big name builder, if I can turn out thr product and vision I think I can, I imagine I could probably stay pretty busy with custom builds.
Thanks again for the feedback, and keep the comments coming
