I don't think a hybrid is for me. Higher cost at purchase which would take years to pay off with the better MPG compared to a nice used compact car which also gets excellent MPG. Also, I'm an old "car guy" that wants a little more zip and a motor I can hear.
However, a hybrid makes way more sense than any current all electric vehicle. They are not yet ready for prime time but are basically a rich persons toy. I want a car I can hope into and drive 2000 miles without worrying if I will run out of charge and where to get charged on the great plaines. I can't afford a $30000 car just to drive around town.
You should look at real world prices of Hybrids. Literally last night I could have bought a 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring for a lower price than what I did buy a 2019 Honda Accord Touring. I passed on the Hybrid simply due to fear of battery failure after after the 8 year 100K mile warranty. We keep our vehicles for a minimum of 10 years. I couldn't picture me buying a replacement battery at the 10 year point just so I could sell the car.
At this point, if you are into leasing vehicles or trading in regularly, I would say go for the hybrid. Oh and as far as "zip" goes, stop by a Honda dealer and test drive the hybrid. Put the pedal to the floor and hold on.
