Hello everyone.We have a 26' Jayco Eagle and I was wondering were most people have been mounting a generator? That's if you mount them at all. My genny is a Powerhouse PH3100RI and weighs in at about 130# so it's not real light. Any ideas would be great.ThanksKeith

Mine goes in the tailgate corner of my truck bed. It is secured to the bed wall using the lockable steel rope. My truck also has a lockable folding hard plastic bed cover and of course the tail gate locks.Makes for a nice OUT-OF-SIGHT secure spot for us when in travel mode or lock up mode. I just pull it out onto the tail gate when connected to the trailer shore power cable when allowed to run my generator at the camp sites. My game plan was to keep the generator out-of-sight as much as possible and I have not had any thief problems using it over the past few years. It goes where I go. I would never leave my generator unattended at a camp site.To me just sitting one on the ground next to the trailer, attaching to a front or rear bumper tray or chaining to a tree is just just saying "TAKE ME-TAKE ME" Thiefs will look for the easy target and can cut thru almost anything using a dremal tool or HD wire cutters.Seriously - how long would these last... sample photos from google imagesRoy Ken

Ours is in a cargo tray at the rear of our TT. Unfortunately we are unable to put it in the bed of our truck as we have a cap on it and that is where we my son sleeps. Not good to sleep in Carbon Monoxide atmosphere. Have never had ours stolen but that may be because where we camp so few people dare to follow.

Our Honda comes out ONLY when in use and someone is present, when not being used it is secured in the vehicle out of site.

You know, I hadn't really thought about the theft part of it. Guess I just tend to be a little to trusting. But I had thought about doing a "semi" hard mount in the bed of the truck and that's sounding like a even better idea now. Been thinking about a shell or cover so that would make a secure concealed mount.Thanks for the help.Keith

No theft problems around here but, if I were traveling I would not leave alone when I left the campsite. RoyB's plan looks like a good one.

My stepson a Master Ford Tech and DG welder built this rack some time ago on our Terry TT. It came with two receivers attached to the frame so I picked up two drop hitches, flipped them over, welded a frame and attached a basket from Harbor Freight. It usually houses our Honda EU3000 and two gas cans.

On our first trailer the Honda generators were attached to welded brackets on each side of the tongue. Worked and hauled great and was very secure. Biggest problem was a vibration felt through out the trailer when running. All the rubber insulation I could add never made much differnece.

When a new trailer was purchased the tongue design did not allow the same installation. The gens now ride in the truck bed, hidden and locked except when used. Simple and out of sight, out of mind.

I have stuck a rubber mat under the genny a few times if I am going to run it any length of time but really dont do that much.
The genny can be unlocked and just set it on the ground if it did bother me and just lock it to something solid.

Do you get much vibration? I met a fellow camper this past summer with a similar set-up, although it looked less solidly built, but his comment was that the vibration got annoying if you tried to run the genny for a long period of time

jasult, maybe you should plan a trip out here to Arizona sometime so you could build one of those for me, just kidding.

The noise wouldn't be a problem as our TT is a front bedroom. But lacking the welding skills, guess I'll just mount it in the bed at least for now.

yes always covered. No problems hanging there and no fumes but keep window closed at rear. I also have run genny while towing trailer a few times to cool down trailer on very hot days as i approach my rv park

Really like that mount you built, wish my welding skills were that good.
Have you had any problems with it hanging out that far? Do you cover it at all?

I have 2 Yamaha 2000 inverters for our 35' Bullet. I made a box that fits on the trailer bumper. I bought a hitch reciever and a hitch plug from Harbor Freight, found it had a wobble with just one, so I got another set, I welded a plate on the recievers so they would slide over the bumper, like a big "U" bolt, and then drilled holes thru the ends so I could put 6" bolts and nuts to hold them secure. Once I slid the box into them, I put a hitch pin lock thru one of them to eliminate easy removal. I then ran a cord from near the outlet for my plug on the trailer to the box. We have show dogs and sometimes we travel with more than can fit in the truck with us, so with this set-up, we can run the generators and the air as we go to the next show. I put a hasp and a Master lock on the box to keep honest people honest, we haven't had any problems. I have the rig in the shop getting some lights added to the steps right now or I'd send some pics.
