Generator, Storage, Solar, et. al

So we just bought our 2017 Bullet 247BHSWE. I hope it was a good choice. It might be at the upper end of what we can tow already. I guess a fully set up trip to the scale will tell. Now I have lots of things to figure out.

First: Where to keep the thing. We could possibly store it in front of our house, but it might not be a great idea since we rent. We could also store it (with a cover) at my mother-in-law's house. We have offered to compensate her. Is storing it in front of a house a better idea than at a random outdoor, uncovered storage facility? Yakima has had some break-ins at storage facilities, so I figure that a house is a little less likely and the money will be going to family.

Second: Solar power. I have glanced at a few articles/posts about solar power. Is it worth an attempt at all for a family that will mostly be at parks, only on random weekends, but would like freedom to dry camp on occasion?

Third: If not solar (which is probably a pipe dream), I assume I need to add a generator? What should I look for? Where should I start learning about it (if there are articles about it)? What weight does that add?

So many questions that I want to ask. I'm sure many of them have been asked so many times before. Advice for a first time trailer owner?

Thanks for all the advice and help from this forum! Pardon me, please, for being an excited, new, first time owner!

Not sure at all you were ready to buy an RV (may be overweight and where to store) but solar works very well with a properly sized system. Do more than glance. Cost wise solar only makes sense if you dry/boondock regularly. Small generator for you probably makes more sense but please camp away from me.

“I suppose that's a hard question to answer...” You suppose correctly. Do an energy audit to figure your usage.
  • So you would recommend extra batteries as opposed to a generator? How long does a battery generally last without recharging? I suppose that's a hard question to answer...
  • We have a 23 foot fun finder. I have a 3 battery set up. I can go 7 days dry camping. I have 2 each 2k Honda generators have never used them camping, and we are finishing out 12 month traveling in the last 26 months. I should sell the generators as they are a pain to keep service and running
