As with most things, I believe what you are really asking is..... I can afford one of them NOW.... Which one should I choose NOW.
That all depends on how reliable you want the choice to be.
Solar has it's advantages. actual breakdowns are really rare, and there is virtually no maintainence.... But you may find that the system doesn't supply your power needs due to weather or location.
A generator needs some care, and good ones such as the Hondas are very reliable, but mechanical breakdowns are rare, but not impossible. But weather and locations really aren't much of a problem.
I would get the generator first.... But, I am not what I call a fair weather camper. When I need my TT, I need it at that time, no matter what the weather, it needs to work for me... I often see the woods empty out as campers leave when conditions deteriorate. Some of my best hunting occurs after a spell of bad weather, when everyone has left... The bad weather leaves, and I have the woods to myself until the fair weather campers come back.... Even then, most of then don't return.
