Generator needs vary due to the loads in the trailer and the altitude. I love my solar! I'm into it for less than a decent generator and it meets all of our power needs except A/C and Microwave.
I would probably lean toward buying a generator before solar just because of its versatility and the ability to run the A/C.
However, I'm a huge advocate of Solar and will continue to be. I can charge my batteries very well from solar, even in partial shade. Granted, I got a great deal on the panels and controller and installed it myself, but the cost was worth it in my opinion.
