Getting close to finalizing a setup. Need some input.

I know technology has changed and improved over the years, but .... on my 1995 Chevy Suburban (1500), I burned up the transmission towing a 5K trailer. Engine had no problem. But really screwed up the transmission! Replaced the transmission, but it never towed right again. Finally traded for a 3500 (gasser). Never had another problem. Since then moved to diesel and much larger campers now.
