I'm new here, just got an a-frame camper last year, decided it was too small for us and are now awaiting a Keystone Hideout 177lhs. I live in Las Vegas and, outside of the town itself and the Lake Mead campgrounds, have found the CGs here in Nevada to be readily available, especially mid-week. Perhaps that is because we don't have the wonderful foliage (in the south and central portion of the state) that most states have or maybe because most of the state and federal CGs have no hookups. The one CG that is a bit of a problem is Valley of Fire which like many of our campgrounds is no reservations.
I will say that I took a trip last June to La Junta, CO, via I-40 and I-25 and did not have any problems finding spots along the way. None of the CGs I stayed at were noisy, but we were packed in like sardines at the CG in Grants, NM., and La Junta.
I gave up tent camping years ago due to a bad back and a wife who's idea of camping up to now was a Motel 6. But lately we've become tired of the motel route of looking for bed bugs every time we step into a new room and eating out every meal. And we want to travel with our fur children (the jury is still out on that possibility). So, we've taken up trailer camping. Most of the places we want to go now are not well served by motels and we are hoping that our camper will do the job for us. I guess we'll just have to take it day-to-day and decide if the crowds and hassles are worth it. I'm guessing it will be.
