Getting under belly enclosed and slide topper.

Looks like we are deciding on the Jayco jay flight SLX. One dealer will enclosed the belly and will put a slide topper on. Will enclosing the belly make a different towing? We just camp during the summer months. Should we get a slide topper installed? How do people like them?
Thank you

  • Enclosing the underbelly is not about towing. It is to insulate the underbelly (to a degree). A bigger issue with winter camping where it helps stop the tanks from freezing but even in summer it will help a bit.

We like the slide toppers as it keeps rain and debris off the top. If you camp in the woods without a topper, you have to sweep the branches and leaves off before pulling the slide in. With the slide topper, you generally don't have to do anything. Plus it helps with cooling as the top of the slide is shaded.

Find out what topper the dealer is installing and check the model number on-line. It's probably fine but some factorys, like Northwood, buy a sub-par CareFree unit that is only available to them. It's such a POS that it's not worth having.

    What company is good?

  • I wouldn't pay for enclosing the belly, but the slide topper is worth having.
