You are right, they are not hard to deploy. However, the commonplace fold-out Lippert steps can be pulled out in a couple of seconds with one hand. Many times I have pulled the Lippert stairs out with one hand while holding a shopping cart still with the other. Personally, I think something better than a hitch pin requiring two hands to remove would be a help.
