GM 4.8 V8, 2500 series van

Will the 4.8 Chevrolet V-8 engine in the 2500 series vans pull a travel trailer OK? Of Gross Weight rating is over 8000 lbs on most of the vans I have seen but, a 4.8 seems a bit small for the job.
  • As far as the trailer weight we wont be anywhere close to 8,000 pounds but still, even with say, 6-7,000 that seems like a small engine. I have read that the torque is pretty good on that engine. I know that there's nothing like cubic inches for power though.
  • 4.8 Is way less motor then I would want with an 8000 pound trailer.
You need to find the gross combined weight rating of the particular van you are considering. That number is the maximum weight of the actual van, and any passengers, and cargo, plus the trailer.
  • It will pull something but likely has a pretty low tow rating. I'd probably look at a TT with an unloadedloaded weight of 4,000-5,000 lbs based on the tow rating range of 6,400-7400 lbs based on the trailer life tow ratings for a 2500 van with a 4.8.

It will be slower...just take your time.

    Thanks!
