We towed a TT that was a little over 7,000# gross with a 2005 Tahoe with the 5.3. The 5.3 is a good motor but, with the 4-speed that was in our Tahoe, I got tired of the constant down-shifting and 3,500 RPM going up grades in the mountains. A newer 5.3 with the 6-speed tranny would be much better in my opinion. Just make sure you get one with the "tow package" that includes the external oil and transmission coolers.
