GM 6.2 or 5.3

Thinking of a new 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 towing a 25foot Travel Trailer back & forth to Florida from Canada (2000 miles each way)have a house there & use trailer to go to parks occasionally while in Florida.
Considering either the 5.3 or 6.2 engine.
Appreciate any experience on either especially the MPG between both.
The difference in price of the bigger engine will not be a big problem and if the MPG is close I am okay on the bigger engine. Want the bigger engine to get the extra gears in the tranny, is that a good enough reason?
Currently have an older Duramax but no problems with it.
Thanks everyone....Ernie

  • I doubt you will find ayone who will say less power is better. Both engines mated to an 8 speed will be good engines.

My preference would be the 6.2.
  • Or '99 in the SUVs lol. Welcome to the 21st century water bug!
Coming from a Dmax, even the 6.2 will feel light in the loafers so u better get the big motor!

5.2L is a little light, why not the 5.7L. 350cuin has been a reliable workhorse for years.

Huh, what planet u from? The last time GM dropped a 5.7 in a truck was 1998...

To OP, I have had 5.3l trucks and my brother has the 6.2. 6.2 hands down for towing anything over 5-6k lb. I hear the direct inject version in the new trucks gets pretty good mileage nearly on par with the 5.3.
