I just read a news article that states the GM assembly plant in Oshawa Ontario is shecuduled to close. Hmmmm, I find that surprising. It's a major plant in Canada. Been producing cars there since 19...

Just so everyone is aware, of the FIVE plants that are slated to be closed, only ONE is in Canada. The other FOUR are in the USA.

Now, on the subject of tariffs, considering that China is GM's number 2 buyer of vesicles, and they will impose a retaliatory tariff on american cars coming into China, wouldn't it just make pure plain old economic sense for GM to just move production of the popular vehicles sold in China to plant in China? That means there will be excess capacity at US factories, so closing plants that are no longer needed just makes sense. What remains viable from those shuttered plants can easily be absorbed by the current plants.
Sadly there is no indication that this will result in any job gains and actually signals job losses. As GM dumps the unprofitable and focus on future development, the number of people supporting technological manufacturing is far less than the number needed to manufacture by current standards. Job lose is inevitable. people need to either get with the changes or be left behind.
This could signal the start of another RV living on the streets in Walmart parking lot Renaissance.
