GM Strike

How does everyone feel about all the GM union members on strike placing nails and screws out onto the streets that their customers who keep them employed drive on? Causing damage to multiple vehicles. I wonder why I haven't bought a GM in years and this puts the nail to it that I would never again. Once those employees do things like this damaging vehicles of the people who purchase their vehicles in turn keeping them employed is a bunch of BS. This isn't the 60's and 70's anymore... people need to grow up and be civilized.

  • I can't believe they went on strike. I read what GM offered them and it was very generous.

It seems that GM offered them lump sum profit sharing bonus, but they wanted a set in stone regardless if it is a down year or not. I would have to side with GM on this especially since it was partly those set in stone increases and pensions that made them go bankrupt in 2008. I think it is fair for a bonus to be based on profits and can fluctuate depending on the economy. Yeah, you may not get as much on a down year, but at least the company will not go bankrupt and you have a chance to make more once the economy goes up instead of being out of a job.
  • From what I read they were blocking entrances to the plants, not to customers buying product. Scabs get treated as scabs. Desperate people resort to desperate measures.

Some things need to be protested, regardless of the decade.
  • Don't be quick to condemn an entire company or group of workers based on the inappropriate actions of a few.
I'm part of a small union in our company. We have around 1600 members. Yes, there are a few that take advantage of the union security and don't work as hard as they should. And there are a few who are very vocal. But, 99% of the folks work hard and are good people.
