FWIW I had a 97 Suburban, a few years ago I traded it for an 08 Suburban.
The 08 is smoother, quieter and gets (very) slightly better mleage than the 97.
I think the 97 was a better built vehicle, It was very reliable. The 08 had a door handle problem and the dash cracked.
I'm satisfied with the 08 but, when I decide to move up a few years the Expedition will be at the top of my list.
That said, I only tow a utility trailer and mostly use the 08 as a daily driver so, I can't comment on the RV towing ability.
Nice story. OP asked about newer ones though.
To the OP, truck/suv, basically the same chassis, interior and drivetrain.
Had a few 2014 Silverados. 2 of them had complete electrical freak outs. To be fair, they were operating at -30 to -45 deg F though.
Currently have a 2016 and we have a bunch of ‘ 15-18 model Silverado 1500s. To my knowledge, no real issues. The 3 or 4 2016s I’m around most have 50-100k on them and nothing but maintenance. Mine has little over 50k, so far so good.
