What they are really saying is the cost of repairs between 60,000 and 100,000 miles exceeds the profit from additional sales that longer warranty generates. To me, that signifies they have a lot of claims falling in that window. If they didn't, they would have no reason to shorten the warranty. Powertrain repairs can be very expensive, we aren't talking about things like a balky power window that would be covered by a bumper to bumper plan. Since I drive around 25,000 miles per year, that is effectively taking a year and a half's worth of coverage away from me. GM is really trying to move me to another manufacturer. BTW, my last 4 vehicles have all been GM and the only claim I can think of that would fall under the cancelled warranty was a starter that went out on one of my trucks. But I like the thought that if someone big was to go really bad, I would have coverage. Doubt they will lower the price to compensate for lower warranty claims costs. GM is really trying to steer me to a competitor.
