This is somewhat a mis-nomer to say "GM broke tradition and installed their (IBC) on the left"
They were only the second manufacturer to install an IBC, and only did it two years after Ford. Ford was in 2005. GM was in 2007 for the 2007.5 model year (GMT900).
I wouldn't say that by Ford having it on the right (for two years prior to GM) "set a tradition, which GM broke"
