GM Trailer Brake Control: Left or Right of steering wheel

Seems like 2005-2006 timeframe was about when the BrakeSmart disappeared from the market, which was an awesome brake controller.

I've heard rumors that other brake company manufacturers sued them or something...

At any rate, I'd like to know what caused their demise.
I recall another vendor continuing the line at some point in time, then the product just vanished.
