I go by what the manufacturer says. They designed it and tested it.
Others prefer a 20 or 30 percent safety factor.
You pull what you are comfortable with, I have no issues with a my EcoBoost F-150 pulling a 5000 lb. 26 ft. Dutchmen. I would not want any thing much bigger.
