The award doesn't pretend to project "real world" maintenance costs.
From the site, their 5-year "cost to own" calculations are based on:
- financing costs
- insurance costs
- state fees
- anticipated costs of fuel x mpg
- scheduled maintenance and repairs (based on the owner's manual)
- Kelley Blue Book's "fair purchase price" (not MSRP, but what they feel you should pay)
- projected depreciation
In a competitive truck segment, it's a nice win.
