GMC/Chevy HD gasser question

Not dissuading you from the gasser of your dreams, but any of the new DEF diesels will do fine with short jaunts all day long, provided you air it out once Ina a while. Even if you can't, they still do relatively well short trips as long as you don't idle them all day.

x3. I use my diesel as a daily driver with lots of short trips around town. It does get out on the highway once a week also.

x4. that shouldn't keep you from going with the diesel. Our 2015 gets lots of 2 mile or more less trips between other longer trips and after almost 10,000 miles NEVER has it caused any issues with the regeneration process.

My 2004 duramax was my daily driver for a 5 mile trip to work for almost 8 years, no issues whatever. Granted, it was before DEF, but did have EGR etc.

Now the gasser does have the advantage of a higher cargo capacity by around 600-800lbs if that has an influence.

But I don't know anyone with the recent 6.0 and newer automatic, so towing wise I'm no help

See sig, no problems pulling, is much improved over my 02 2500 with the 6.0 and 4 speed. I tow around 10k and have no issues. The best part is the drivetrain is so reliable, GM has really built a great LS engine series. Having pulled with both gas and diesel, I stayed with gas. Easy to maintain by myself and cheap to fix. The newer diesels are really nice, problem is that my wallet just won't handle a repair bill when something breaks. I can tell u that the GM 6.0 won't let u down, it will pull grades and will run 4 th or even 3 rd gear doing it but will keep the speed. Hope this helps and other 6.0 owners chime in.

Looks like the first four replies are trying to convince you to go diesel. I think the GM 6.0 V-8 is good for towing 9,000 to 10,000 pounds with no problem. That should cover most travel trailer that you will be looking at.

8600lbs on trailer axles with WDH hooked up (we crossed DOT scales when they were closed, did not take time to remove WDH or unhook, just weighed axles on truck and trailer. 6.0 tows it fine.

I tow with a 02 chev HD crew cab with 6.0 locking rear end that is geared 4.10. I don't get great mileage but It gets me there and back in comfort and with out any problems. it tows a 35' 8500 lbs dry weight and real close to 10K wet. this is by far the best truck I've ever owned. it's getting old but still pulls great.

I also tow around 7000 with my 01 2500 HD 6.0. It stays thirsty but pulls great and is a very comfortable ride. Tons better than my 1998 K1500, no comparison actually...

We just purchased a new 2015 2500HD 6.0 gas and a new 2016 TT.

Dry wt on the new TT is 8375. We added 3 slide toppers and a second battery which probably brings dry wt to around 8800. When the dealer set up the hitch, TW was 1100 with nothing in the trailer.

Now that we've packed it for camping, I'm guessing we are getting close to 10,000 lbs and TW could be as high as 1300 lbs.

We've had it out 4 times so far and are satisfied with the gas. Gas mileage towing has been around 7.5 - 8.5 mpg. Power is adequate. Handling and braking is outstanding.

I don't live on the road, don't make a living with my truck, don't put a lot of mile on my truck and usually trade every 7-10 years. The gas engine meets my needs OK.
