Have a 2009 2500HD, 6.0, 6 spd, 4:10, x-cab, long-box. I tow a 2012 Sundance 3000CK; actual weight fully loaded for travel is 10,980 (CAT Scale). Truck rated for 12,300.
The 6.0 with 6 spd is an excellent tow rig at this weight and a bit more. As others have said, it's a bit thirsty but holds speed on hills very well.
