- BenKExplorerThe 6.2L is a fantastic 'car' engine and even in a half ton pickup/SUV but...
I think it is still the metallurgical issue between the cylinder
sleeves and aluminum block for anything more than a 'car' or
half tons used mostly as a car towing within it's actual ratings
Though there are other issues too for the levels of energy expended
in the higher class TVs towing heavy
Key is that I think it was designed as a 'car' engine and then
stuffed in half tons...to be long lived in higher class TV's...it
will need to be redesigned and maybe an iron block...

Know this is 2014 data, but don't think they have gone away from
cast-in iron liners
Weight-saving aluminum engine blocks: For 2014, all three engines for the Silverado and Sierra use lightweight aluminum blocks with cast-in iron cylinder liners. The blocks were developed with math-based tools and data acquired in GM’s racing programs, providing a light, rigid foundation for a smooth and strong engine.

- ksssExplorerThe 6.2 is going in the HD in 2017 along with the more powerful Dmax. I don't know the power settings, I would bet it wont be aluminum like the half ton version, hopefully it shares the power and mileage of the half ton version.

if anyone has any new info on this new 6.2 heavy duty gasser for 2017 please post. thanks
It's been available. I'm not sure what I'm missing here. In limited numbers, but available.
Edit.. Saw the HD part of your post. No clue why 1/2 ton got the big boy. Seems backwards. I'm looking at 2500 HD with Duramax/Allison. Never even considered the mundane gasser. But also looking at Ram Mega Cab, in which case I would go with 6.4 Hemi over CTD ironically. Drove it and it's a monster.
Dan - Golden_HVACExplorerThe 2017 truck design is all finished, and top secret at this point. The engineers can not make changes to the 2017's anymore because the whole truck has been handed over to the tool and die makers who require a full year to produce molds of each part on the vehicle.
GMC would not have told their dealerships anything about the 2017's yet. Probably will not have any information for the dealerships until after the Detroit auto show in January 2016.
The problem with releasing to much information to soon is that nobody will want the 'old' model when the new one is coming that will get fantastic mileage, have more power, look 'new'. Ford found that out in 2010 when the new fuel efficient 3.5L V6 was coming out the next model year. Then again in early 2014 when news started to come out about the 700 pound lighter F-150 with savings of $500 a year in fuel comparing the 2014 3.7L V6 to the new 2.7L Ecoboost with more power and higher towing rating.
I was telling my boss to buy a 2015 pickup in January of this year, because I could look at the specs and EPA ratings of the 2015 trucks with the 2.7L Ecoboost, and their annual fuel cost was $500 less than the 2014 with the 3.5L Ecoboost! He bought a 2014 because of the great rebates on the older models.
Ford designers are currently working on the 2020 models, making changes that will improve mileage further, make them stronger, and such.

I was looking at a GMC truck about a week ago and asked the salesman the same question and he went and asked and they are not going too for 16 probably not for 17
Sales guy is the LAST person I would ask or believe. They want to sell you what they have on their lot today. Salesmen are about as believable as a politician... - nevadanickExplorer6.2 is a great engine and if it was in 2500 series truck there would be one in my driveway. We had a 2015 Yukon for about 6mo and i loved that engine.

- N-TroubleExplorerThere is rumor "a" 6.2 will make it into the 17' and I don't doubt it given the Ram 6.4 and Ford 6.2. Come back in a year from now and we'll have more info LOL...
Reliable workhorse yes, but formidable is the last word that comes to mind with the 6.0 after having owned and towed with one. - Dannyabear1Explorer

Since the '16s haven't even come out yet, anything on the '17s would be pure speculation at this time.
I really doubt they would use the 6.2 since that motor is more of a high performance motor made for HP over torque. And the 6.0 is a formidable motor. But that's just speculation on my part :)
I think this is the correct answer - SouthpawHDExplorerSince the '16s haven't even come out yet, anything on the '17s would be pure speculation at this time.
