Good parking surface?

So my wife and I will be bringing home our new travel trailer in a month and we need to decide what is the best surface to park it on. I am trying to decide if I should extend and widen my driveway with asphalt or if I should just excavate the area that I would pave and fill it in with gravel. Any and all suggestions will be great. The TT GVWR is 7,500lbs, and my area is sand based not clay.

I have been parking mine next to the driveway, unpaved, for years and have not had a rust issue. I have 2'X 4' strips of 3/4" plywood under the tires to keep the tires off the ground. This also makes it easier to weed-eat around. I replace to wood every three years or so.

Now granted, there hasn't been GRASS on this spot since we bought out first camper 14 years ago.

it has been posted previously that parking on GRASS has accelerated the rusting of the trailer frame .
I can say from practical experience that the trailer life is probably double if parked under a carport rather than exposed to the sun / snow .
if your budget is tight you may do it in steps .
gravel foundation now with vertical 6 x6 framed carport .
in a couple of years , pave it .
in a couple of years install the walls .

  • Is there any benefit to the paved driveway? It is cheaper by a long shot to do the gravel. Especially since I have the equipment to excavate and fill in the gravel.
