Goodbye old friends

They're gone.

Every time I look into the garage and they're no longer there, a wave of sadness sweeps over me. No longer there? What? Our 2003 Tundra and 2004 Phoenix popup. Yesterday, after many thousands of happy miles and beaucoup adventures, we parted company.

Why?

A month ago, DW and I flew to Spokane and drove back to Denver in a "new" 2002 Dodge dually diesel and 2002 Northern Lite 10-2 CD, a combination that I found on Craigslist. But that's another story.

In the meantime, I'm mourning the loss of our old friends. No longer will I spend hours in the garage: replacing the original Tundra bench seat with a split bench. And in the Phoenix: putting carpeting in the cabover, making an air conditioning duct from a container-store boot box, building shelves in the closet, replacing the analog thermostat with a digital, installing led lights, upgrading the electrical panel and converter, making a gadget to keep the fridge from being opened inadvertently by someone's hip. You get the picture.

For years I've wanted a Northern Lite. We enjoyed driving the Dodge and Northern Lite back from Idaho – a dream come true. And there are tasks related to the new rig, including getting the city off our back after we parked in the back yard and someone complained. But keeping busy with our new friends doesn't stop us from mourning the loss of our old ones. We hope the new owners will enjoy the Tundra and Phoenix as much as we did. Bon voyage!
