Goodyear and/or Maxxis owners

After last week's blowout, I'm shopping for new tires for my TT. After reading a lot of posts here and researching online, I've narrowed it down to Goodyear Marathon Radials or Maxxis M8008 ST Radial BS. Only $6 difference between them, so price is no big issue.

I had the Goodyears as OEM, and they were great, but I understand that manufacturing may have changed since they were produced in 2006. I'd like to hear from people who have actually owned these tires that were produced in the last year or two. Please, no "I heard that..." or "My cousin's friend's uncle has..." or "You should upgrade to..." Looking for some first-hand feedback on these tires.
  • I believe that both are good tires. When I got my 2006 Airstream in 2009 it had the original Goodyears on it. It was very lightly used spending most of its time parked out in the sun. The following year I noticed a significant bulge in the tread, not the sidewall, the tread. I replaced them with Maxxis and have had 4 years and about 20K miles of good use out of them.

I think it is important to get your tires from a reputable dealer, keep them inflated properly and inspect them regularly. Goodyear is a big name and Airstream still puts the Marathons on their trailers.
  • Maxxis load range E here. At this point, when I need to replace I will again go with Maxxis.

    No problems at all..
  • I have Maxxis 8008 225x75Rx15 LR D for 5 years now and they have worked great for me, and IMHO it is the only ST tire I will buy for my RV…
  • Have had Maxxis on 2 different trailers with no problems. Have about 4000 miles on the present ones.
  • I've run Maxxis on both my trailers. They have been problem free. Replaced them on the first trailer at close to 30K miles after they were nearing 6 years old and not at the wear bars but close. The other trailer has 20K miles on it and I suspect it will go near 30K as well. We put around 5K/yr on each trailer.

I'm also a firm believer in a TPMS and balancing trailer tires.

    No experience with goodyear marathons.
  • First hand: I have used Goodyear Marathons over the years on at least 4 different trailers and never experienced a problem. I had a large boat with Maxxis tires on the trailer. One blew out. Many more miles on RV trailers than boat trailer. Your results may vary.
