I tried 3 eraser brands on a sample of mirror-finished white fiberglass shower stall material (with the notion of using the eraser to clean up a fiberglass shower insert).....and the erasers ruined the gelcoat finish on the sample in seconds :E

i always give the camper a good wax in the spring twice for the nose, and the bugs wash right off.

I have used hydrogen peroxide for years on my motorcycle. Its cheap and works great to soften up the bugs. Get a spray bottle and spray on the organic material it will bubble up and then can easily be washed off.

The last couple of years I have been using a product called a "love bug sponge" which I ordered off the Internet. Then with using Spray 9 cleaner and scrubbing with the love bug sponge, it works as well as anything I have found, so far. We made a trip up to WDW, the Fort Campground, a couple of weeks back and just north of Yeehaw junction on the turnpike, the love bugs were thick during the mid day time.

Was talking to another Florida resident at the Fort and he told me he had switched to using witch Hazel cleaner to spray on the dead bugs. He said it seemed to dissolve the glue of the bugs and after a four or five minute soak, they would come off easily with a sponge and regular car soap in water.

No matter what I use, it seems to take about three hours to get the RV and the truck clean of the love bugs but you sure don't want to leave them on the rig or they will damage the paint.

This was from May of 2013. It took about an hour to collect all these love bugs, as we headed home from Disney.

I don't think its 1800 grit sand paper because they are made for drywall...

1800 grit is used, usually wet-sanding, during finish procedures on car/boat/motorcycle paint before buffing with a fine polishing compound for a high gloss and won't do diddly squat for drywall (I've personally sanded copious amounts of drywall compound, or "mud"). It's an ultra-fine grit. I said 1800 grit as more of a generalization that it's a very, very fine sandpaper (the higher the #, the finer the grit). Maybe a Magic Eraser is 2000 grit. I've never actually put them under a microscope to determine the Magic Eraser to sandpaper equivalent. The point was that it takes off material.
No blood, no foul. I just wanted to clear that up.

I try to get a coat of wax on the most hit area's before a trip out. Then when I get back home I use dryer sheets and Bug Slide, made by www.JackieBlueWear.com. Used it for years on my motorcycles and now my TC. A long thumbnail is very use full also for detailing.

Twice a year I apply Starbrite Marine polish with teflon. Bugs will wash right off with very little scrubbing.

The problem with dryer sheets is that many brands now have a lot of "wax" on them which is as hard to get off as the bugs. I've been extremely disappointed the last two times with two different brands, of course I forget which ones.

I just got back from a long trip to California, Arizona and Utah and brought lots of bugs home with me. Usually I use drier sheets but this time I bought a product called Voom RV cleaner and it is great. I used it diluted to wash the unit then put some neat into a spray bottle for bug removal. It made the job easy

Think about it, the objective is to soften the bug splatter to make it easy to remove. Anything with an abrasive will remove the bug splatter, but also removes material (gel coat, paint, or related) from the TC finish. Water will soften the bug splatter, but takes a while. The pressure washer with water will soften the bug splatter and remove them completely.
