Grill winter diaper

Anyone leave their diesels winter grill diaper on when towing?Getting a late start to AZ this year and it's pretty cold here and I have the diaper on. Have always removed it when we left before, but it's been warmer.
  • My 03 GMC warms up a lot better with the diaper. Guess I'll just leave it home instead of messing with it on the road. It will better in a more desirable climate after the first day anyway. Thanks guys.
  • I drove my last diesel PU for 13 years without even thinking about a grill/rad cover. Apparently the engine thermostat took care of regulating the temp out there.

I also drove an OTR Semi that did not have a grill cover. It worked fine even in the blizzards.

So i did not have a use for that accessory.
  • I loved my 1963 Volvo 544. It had a spring loaded window shade mounted inside the grill and in front of the radiator. There was a chain projecting through the firewall and dashboard that led through a keyhole opening. I could pull the chain and it would unroll the shade upward to cover the radiator in cold weather. I love basic and essential technology that gets the job done.
  • The grill cover helps during warm-ups, idling and sever cold. I'd remove it so you don't have to worry about over heating accidently.

  • I've never used ours. Even in well below 0F temps, in town and/or on the highway. yes, did take longer to warm up, but did stay up to temp.

I suppose if I lived full time in a very cold climate and did short around town trips I'd put it on.
  • I have not towed in the winter, but did drive to Montana 3 years ago for Christmas with the truck solo. I do not have a cover and never felt the need for one. during that trip it got down to -4 overnite and was about 0 the hole way back to Indiana. The truck ran at normal temps the whole time and averaged 17+ mpg. So for me I would pull it and go. To me your call.
