We are only set up for a 30 amp as 50 amp would burn me to the ground wouldn't it? The box has a 50amp,30 amp, and a 20 amp for trailers.

I was talking about a piece of hardware that you plug into the campground pedestal, between the pedestal and your camper. This should be part of every camper. If you go to the fount of all knowledge ( Google ), put in RV surge protector, you will find all sorts of info.
