In the past, others have posted that they keep them in cases under their mattress or a false platform that raises the mattress up enough to slide a gun case or long guns under. One point that I haven't seen addressed is the condensation that occur some areas, like cabinets and under mattresses in periods of cold weather with aux heat sources. Just be aware of that issue in storing your guns for periods of time.
