Exactly... white knuckle experience is based upon the DRIVER more than the VEHICLE.
My father in law drove trucks for a living. He could very likely pull an overweight 5th wheel with a Ram 1500 and handle it perfectly fine, understanding the limitations of the Ram and driving accordingly.
On the other hand, my mother in law can barely traverse an empty parking lot without serious trepidation. She could pull a pop-up behind a dually and be scared to death, "white knuckled" and sweating.
Before getting my Ram, I pulled my 8500 lbs trailer with my Tundra. I was overloaded by several hundred pounds. I was getting 7.5 mpg towing. But the truck felt solid and I knew its abilities and limitations. Never felt "white knuckled" and was able to drive it comfortably... despite being overweight.
