While a particular individual may feel that way that is not the feel I get from following this site.
For the most part, as long as you are in your weight ratings, you are fine. Where the 1/2tons get a bad name (and to a lesser degree 3/4ton) is on the 5th wheel forum when people go around way over their weight ratings. With propoerly set up 1/2ton, you can be within ratings for fairly large bumper pull trailer.
Pulling power is basically a non-issue. The worst base V8 (and even a V6 or two) have more power than the best 1 ton towing machines from 25yrs ago.
