Happijack Turnbuckles Work Loose

I have Happijack turnbuckles and they always seem to work loose while driving down the road. Anyone had this issue?

  • If at the same time you notice the looseness on one you see increased tension on another then I would suspect the camper has shifted however, if multiple tiedowns are loosening, then you have some other problem.
  • I have found, with any brand of tie downs, the tension on them will change the first 100 to 150 miles of driving, as the truck camper gets settled in to place. This past summer, on our way to Colorado, I stopped at a rest area just out of Orlando to check the tie downs. One of the rear ones was too tight and one front was too loose. apparently the TC wasn't setting completely square in the bed when I departed home. I have it sitting on a rubber bed mat and after the first readjustment of the tie downs, they were good for the next 6,000+ miles of the 2+month trip. Sometimes I may have to make a couple of adjustments on the tie downs till they find their spot. Not a real problem, just something to check. Then I check them visually and by feel at each fuel stop and at the start of each day. For any tie down to get loose, something has to move, be it the truck bed or the truck camper, usually it is the TC.
  • My Front driver side Happi jac turnbuckle tends to loosens up sometimes depending on any side to side action especially on any uneven side roads even with lock nuts. I just check them all every once in awhile on the road.
