Hi everyone! I just joined tonight, because we need your experience and wisdom! What would be your recommendation for the most practical size of TT for a couple in their early 60s who wants to travel around the country visiting national parks? We want something that would be good on gas mileage.
Mookie,
Spend some time and research this topic on these fora - you will come to the following conclusion.
If you want to RV and you want "good" gas mileage then there is only one solution for you - get a popup, preferably lighter rather than heavier, and pull it with a capable SUV. Also popup s are the best RVs when your focus is National Parks, which typical have limited hookups.
Any RV you pull that has a standard height frontal area will present the biggest source of drag to your tow vehicle. And you would want to get a tow vehicle that would tow that "box" safely as you go in all sorts of terrain. With this sort of rig your mileage will centre on the magic number of 10 mpg +/- 1 mpg or so. If that is acceptable then you can shift focus to non-towing gas mileage and make the rest of your decision from there.
So bottom line - there is no "good" mileage of the sort I think you are looking for when towing a full frontal RV.
