harbor frieght

I'm looking for some feedback, I just bought the 4000/3200 watt predator and also a cargo carrier and the hitch to bolt to the 4 inch bumper of the TT. my plan is during our 1000 plus mile ride to Florida we will stop for breaks and use the genny on the back cargo carrier to power up the ac and other items while were stopped. Im not planning on bringing any extra fuel as were not resting for hours and I can always put a gallon in the genny on our TV fuel stops. Has anyone done this or forsee any issues?

the genny is about 110 lbs + fuel will be around 120 lbs.
the cargo carrier is about 100 lbs

so I'm only adding about 200 extra pounds to the rear of the TT and I will compensate some weight to the front if I feel any noticeable difference.

I'm hoping that when I kick on the AC and the wife feels the cool air as she takes her nap I will be justified in my 400 dollar expense.
  • you make a good point, the carrier states it will hold 500 lbs. I didn't think to check the bumper specs to see if "it" could hold the weight. since my trip is literally a week away I may have wasted 400 bux if I can't secure it better unless I bolt some steel beems from the frame to the carrier to add more strength.
  • Make dang sure that hitch is frame mounted, not just mounted to the bumper. I do have one and use it for generator/fuel hauling if football tailgating and for carrying a 50cc scooter when horse showing. I had it custom built and installed by a custom metal shop. Mine is a class III hitch and mounts to the frame are about 3' long.
  • I wouldn't be as concerned with the weight distribution for your TT as I would with the strain the hitch and weight of the generator would put on your bumper. There is a lot of bouncing in the back during travel and I would be worried about the stress with that much weight cantilevered off the back of the bumper.
