I recently installed a Samlex 1000w inverter in my 5th wheel. I ran 4ga wire directly to the battery using a 150a fuse. I then ran some 120v house wire wire to 3 separate 120v outlets.
Certainly that's one way of doing it but I found it much simpler to just plug the trailer's main service cable into the inverter's output so the trailer's entire 120 vac system is powered ... no additional wiring, no additional receptacles needed to be installed. Since I obviously want the trailer's 12 vdc system active at the same time the inverter is powering the 120 vac system I simply turn the converter breaker off to avoid a closed loop ... works like a charm and the trailer behaves just as if it were plugged into shore power, obviously within the limitations of the inverter and battery bank powering it.

This is what I've done as well. I also keep my generator in the same compartment so I can just set it on the ground below and plug it in the same as I do my inverter. It works great for us.
