Harvest Host

Has anyone become a member of Harvest Host ? If so has there ever been an issue with accepting truck campers?

It is $49/year and you can stay at places like wineries, farms, museums free one night. They generally don't offer services such as hookups or dump so you need to be self contained.

They do hope that you will take advantage of their services; i.e.: buy something but it is not required.

I think we are going to try it out this year. Looks like a good way to stay at some scenic places and fresh farm goods and wine are always appreciated.
  • We've been members for a while and have stayed at some great places. Although the web page for the hosts only show the number of spaces for class A, B and C, I can't imagine any host turning away a TC. You call the host to inquire about availability anyway, so you can ask then. These sites are usually available on short notice. We've called the day before and have always gotten a site.

A word of warning: If you're looking at HH to save money (the sites are free to members), don't pick a winery. I've spent way more for a free site at winery than I even would for a site at a campground :)
  • We have belonged to Harvest Hosts for at least 7 years and love it. When visiting a winery, you pull in, chat with the owners, maybe sip some wine and they go home. And there you are, parked in vineyards, pretty nice!
There are sites that are not wineries such at French Cheese Company in Tillamook, Oregon. We even had a winery in Paso Robles, CA asked if we wanted to plug in!
And if you refer someone who signs up, you each receive an extra month added to your membership!
I would say, try it for a year and see if it works for you!

We just signed up for it this month. Looks like a great resource for some nice places to stay. Probably won't use it until spring since we're in the dead of winter and tied down with family stuff right now but looking forward to some of the locations they have registered this spring.

We also use the free camping apps and the military campground apps but this looks to be a great addition and surely is cheap enough to give it a try.
