We drycamp 99.9% of the time, and have a Honda2000 but it usually only gets used at home, not when we're camping. I hear it running when I'm inside our house and hear it when we do use it while camping. So surely tent campers could hear it on a quiet evening.
One trip in September we were the only camper in a rustic campground. A Class A pulled into the site next to us and immediately fired up its generator. 11 p.m. and it was still running! Why did they park next to us, why not in one of the 50 other sites? Afraid of bears? Anyway, at 11 p.m. I walked over in my bathrobe, knocked on the door, and asked them to shut it off because we were trying to sleep. They seemed surprised that we could hear it 70' away inside our RV because they couldn't hear it.
