Nope, never happened to me as I always shut my down by dusk.
Most campgrounds I've visited, the rules for generators are simple and stated two ways. Either specific generator hours, usually 2 hours in the morning and 2-4 hours in the evening. Or generators are not allowed during quiet hours.
No mention of how quiet or loud a generator sounds. Though luckily in a few campgrounds, there are even noise limits on generators so no commercial obnoxiously loud ones are allowed.
When I'm sitting by the fire enjoying the sounds of nature, I can hear a Honda 2000 in idle mode from over 500 yards away. Sure does drown out the crackling and popping of my fire which I've been nursing until quiet hours just so I can hear it.
