The overhang swings out a little on tight turns and reduces your approach angle when encountering steep inclines. That being said, I've only had a problem with the overhang twice in 12 years of roaming Idaho's back roads, and it was my hitch extension that hung up. The newer campers seem to be quite a bit higher in the rear than my old Lance.

I have wished for something smaller simply for efficiency and to make driving less cumbersome. I sometimes long for a Tacoma with a small pop-up. However, on my big truck, a big camper works well. After owning it for so long, we are still surprised sometimes about where we can go and still take everything with us. Driving in traffic was only ever scary in downtown San Francisco.
