We have a comfy 25' fifth wheel for destination touring so the 8' camper is for our off-road adventures where towing isn't an option.
Thus, smaller and lighter were requirements for the camper. Plus a toilet. And no slides, which aren't a great feature in the north -- dust has another way of getting inside and the slides can unseat on the rough goat trails we tend to bounce down. Plus slides added weight - we needed to stay under 2,000 lbs.
Our 8' camper is very comfy, certainly better than tent camping. And safer as the bears are unlikely to swat us awake in the night.
And towing the boat is easy, even though our 8' camper hangs off the shortbox.
