We never had one in either TC...ordered the new one without. Here in NE...we just don't need it. I don't want all that weight up high, I don't like the height, and I don't like carrying a genny (except ski camping).
The FF and open windows works well for us...and runs on 12v.
I am not sure where the OP lives (NC?) but you might reconsider AC...
Would help a little, but not enough to really matter much. As I said, it's the outer edges of the roof which are closer to the edge of the road rather than the center, which is often clear. It's rare to have a branch that is completely horizontal above a road that would catch the A/C before anything else. They usually slope up at a 45-degree angle at least.

Do we need A/C? Not really. We've used it only once for a couple of hours when we were at Maryhill SP. Normally we are on the coast or in the mountains where we don't need it.
