4x4 it has to do a lot with emissions and a little to do with breaking parts.
I have the last model mechanical injected engine that GM made. At low RPM when I floor it, it will smoke some because the turbo is not spooled up. If I floor it when the RPM's are up it won't smoke because the turbo is already spooled and giving the engine enough air.
The modern EFI stuff won't give the engine a bunch of fuel at low RPM because they want the turbo spooled up to be a clean burn. You may floor it, but the puter says don't give the engine total fuel flow because of the low air flow.
Low RPM power(torque) brakes parts and is dirty. That's why the new EFI engines limit this.
