Mar 09, 2015In short, a conventional generator generates plain AC power. These generators run at full throttle constantly, are noisier, but cheaper. Inverter generators take the AC generated power, convert it to DC, then back to AC. These generators can be throttled down with light loads, are quieter, create a cleaner source of power for electronics, but are a little more pricey.
If you do a lot of camping away from others then a conventional generator will work just fine. If you camp around others then the inverter generators are a better choice since they're much quieter.
