If you feel the need for some additional cushion, think I'd be getting just an inexpensive egg crate and putting it underneath the mattress rather than on top. Guess we must be able to sleep most anywhere, because we've never had any problem with the original.
BTW, when you use the heated mattress, it won't feel warm right away like a heating pad. I generally turn ours on a couple of hours before bedtime and it's comfy warm when time comes.
