I'm looking forward to the big tow test up the Eisenhower in Colorado between the Ecoboost and the new diesel Ram 1500. OK GM, what are you going to show up with? Popcorn is popping. :)
Nothing to see here, the ecoboost would absolutely destroy the diesel in a tow test.
If you want to know what the new diesel will do all you have to do is compair it to the diesels of yesteryears.
My 6.5 is rated at 200HP from the factory and is around 225 now with a pipe and the pump turned up a bit. These are around the same numbers the "new" baby diesel is said to put out.
Does my 225HP diesel engine do ok towing my 7k TT? I think so, but most on here would not agree. It gets down to around 30 MPH in big montains and most think that is bad. So to put my 6.5 up against an Ecoboost and think it would be close towing would be crazy. It's not even going to be close.
On the same note, neither is the fuel economy. My 6.5 will pull down around 12 MPG towing my trailer at 65 to 75 MPH. If I slowed down to 55 I would pull down about 13+. Try that with a gasoline engine. Not even going to be close.
It's a give or take world. You want mileage or you want power?
