A financial justification means a lower cost of ownership and operation. Slightly lower fuel useage coupled with a likely 4k initial upcharge and taxes and interest on that 4k combined with 40 cents more per gallon will probably not result in a payback during the life cycle of the truck so there is no financial justifiction there.

You're right, don't buy one if you don't like them. I think they will sell like crazy here, where diesel fuel is almost always cheaper than reg unleaded gas. Add to that the awesome fuel economy and low rpm torque, and I think they have a winner on their hands. You disagree, or you're just a Ram hater. Either way, you're entitled to your opinion.
GM tried their hand at the half ton diesel with the 6.5 Turbo during the 90's. Yes it had more torque and made better fuel economy than the 350, but in the end they just didn't sell.
