Interesting topic for sure..... if we could all at least try to set aside the bias we have towards the truck we obviously own it would help a lot but I guess that's to be expected. Some of the commnents on this thread are truly priceless.
As a consumer I see this truck (along with the F150 ecoboost to be fair) as filling a long empty gap. With many of the popular TT you're stuck either maxing out a 1/2 ton or going somewhat overboard and moving up to a 3/4 ton. And opting for the 3/4 ton you're faced with either an underpowered small gasser to save mpg, a nicely powered big engine that will quickly deplete any life savings you had while at the pump or the diesel option which will do the same as the big gasser only at the time of purchase. So, two options to make you poor... one to frustrate you while towing an 8,000# TT up a modest hill.
I'm excited to have options and that the manufacturers have FINALLY listened to what the consumers need. I think the 1/2 ton Dodge diesel will be very popular - as is the Ford Ecoboost. I'm excited to see what GM/Chevy brings to the party. I love my 2500 Duramax but am not blind.... I'd jump ship in an instant if it makes sense financially and functionally. And I guess I'm the perfect candidate - 8500lb. TT and drive my truck a lot as a daily driver with few enough tools that they could easily fit an a 1/2 ton.
